Three of Hearts by @KellyJamieson {#Giveaway} @RiptideBooks

ShareTheLove_TourBanner

ThreeOfHearts_200x300Haylee Tremayne is tired of the road. The concert tour for Three of Hearts was a success, but she’s confused by the inexplicable tension between her bandmates, Ben and Lucas. She’s also ready to go home to her boyfriend in Nashville. Time off would probably help everyone relax, even if it is Christmas, a season with too many bad memories.

But right before their last concert, Haylee discovers she’s been dumped for a sexy girly-girl. Story of her life: all guys see is tomboy Haylee. At the after-concert party, she drowns her sorrows and—desperate to feel feminine for once in her life—asks Ben and Lucas for a threesome. And it’s just as sexy and fun as she hoped.

Back in Nashville, Ben and Lucas prove again and again that their first night wasn’t a mistake. But the tension between them is still high, and on Christmas Eve, their ménage takes a stunning turn. When it all falls apart, Haylee is terrified that their crazy relationship might cost them the band, their success, and worst of all, each other.

Each year, Riptide Publishing releases a holiday collection in support of an LGBTQ charity. Twenty percent of all proceeds from the Share the Love collection will be donated to the It Gets Better Project.

This collection would not be possible without the talent and generosity of its authors, who have brought us the following holiday stories:

・        Three of Hearts  by Kelly Jamieson (releasing November 17)

・        Lucky Strike  by Jane Davitt (releasing November 24)

・        Three the Hard Way  by Sydney Croft (releasing December 1)

About Kelly Jamieson

Kelly is a married mother of two who lives a very ordinary life outside of her imagination. When she’s not writing, she’s usually reading. She also likes to cook, and that means she likes to read cookbooks and cooking magazines. In the summer she enjoys spending time gardening, and in the winter she likes to read gardening magazines and seed catalogues. She loves lying on the beach or on her deck with a glass of wine and a good book. She also loves to travel. As you can see, pretty much all of her activities involve reading somehow! Although she doesn’t have as much time for it anymore, she also loves to shop, especially for clothes and shoes. Some think she’s obsessed with shoes but that is not true (although her husband would point out that there is no room left in our closet).

She loves to hear from readers, so visit her on her website, tweet her on Twitter, leave her a comment on Goodreads or Amazon or her blog, or email her at info@kellyjamieson.com.

Every year, Riptide Publishing releases a Holiday charity bundle with themed stories by bestselling authors. Twenty percent of the net proceeds of each bundle goes to a charity that serves the LGBTQ population.

Royalties from Riptide’s 2013 Home for the Holidays charity collection have raised over $14,000 in nine months for the Ali Forney Center, and continue to yield several hundred dollars per month in royalties donations. Our 2014 Share the Love charity collection will be raising money for the It Gets Better Project, and we hope to report even better results than in 2013.

For 2015, the theme will be Holiday Surprises, and we’ll have stories by HelenKay Dimon, Christine d’Abo, and Marie Sexton. But we don’t have a charity yet.

We need YOUR help to choose the 2015 charity. Nominate your favorite LGBTQ charity below and Riptide might choose it as the 2015 Holiday bundle charity!

The chosen charity for 2015 will immediately receive a $5,000 advance against royalties (paid in 2015 on announcement of the award recipient). The charity will continue to receive 20% of all lifetime net sales income from the 2015 holiday charity collection, in the form of a monthly royalty check.

Words That Bind by @ashkrafton – Interview and #Giveaway @GoddessFish

interview2

Hi Ash. Welcome to All I Want and More. We’re glad to have you here.

Thanks! I’m really excited.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a speculative fiction writer, meaning I write a little of everything, from fantasy to mild horror. My novels are generally urban fantasy or paranormal romance, but I also write poetry and short stories across this vast and wonderful spectrum.

In this book, who was your favorite character to write and why? MEDIA KIT WordsThatBind_w9084_750

My favorite to write was Burns. He gets away with everything, and I loved seeing how far he’d actually go.

What 3 words would you use to describe your main characters?

Tam: trustworthy, reserved, longing.

Burns: fiery, passionate, surprising.

How do you go about picking character names? Do you have to get them just right and make sure they fit with the characters personality?

Burns is a fire elemental, and his chosen alias is his own private joke. Tam Kerish started as a name, before I had any idea what she looked like, what she sounded like, who she’d actually be.

We’re cover hussies. What was your first impression of this cover?

Hot! Actually, I was fortunate to have a lot of input into the cover art and it came out so perfectly close to what I envisioned.

What does writing mean to you?

It’s a release, an escape, a way to get my badness out.

What do you hope readers take away after reading one of your books?

Even though I write about paranormal creatures and impossible beings, I want to write them with enough realism so that each reader is left wondering…was that really made-up? What if…? And that is the very spirit of speculative fiction. If I can make someone believe these stories, for one moment, actually could be true…then I’ll have succeeded.

If you had a technology free day, what would you do?

Cry. And when I was done, I’d dig out my old Hellblazer comics so I can catch up on John Constantine. I LOVE the new series!

What are you currently working on?

A Victorian paranormal called The Heartbeat Thief. A little Jane Austen, a little Edgar Allen Poe, and a whole lot of evading death. And corsets. There shall be plenty of corsets.

Quickie Time

Sexiest feature on a man? His voice.

Boxers, Briefs or Commando? Briefs.

What is on your night stand/dresser? Alarm clock, ceramic dish, Chapstick, and photographs.

Hairy chests or smooth? Depends whose chest!

Cowboy or businessman? Business. Armani is nice.

Tattoos or piercings? Tattoos, but discreet ones.

Secret talent? I can whistle through my thumbs.

What’s your guilty pleasure? Sour cream and Cheddar Ruffle chips and BBC America.

Celebrity crush? Alan Alda. DON’T JUDGE.

Night owl or early bird? Night owl.

Twitter or Facebook? Twitter!

Pinterest or Instagram? Instagram.

ebooks or paperbacks? Both…naturally.

Is there anything else you like to add?

I had a lot of fun and I’m glad you had me in for a chat. I hope you’ll get a chance to read Words That Bind—and I’d love to hear from you!

blurbSocial worker Tam Kerish can’t keep her cool professionalism when steamy client Mr. Burns kindles a desire for more than a client-therapist relationship—so she drops him. However, they discover she’s the talisman to which Burns, an immortal djinn, has been bound since the days of King Solomon…and that makes it difficult.

Ethical guidelines are unequivocal when it comes to personal relationships with clients. However, the djinn has a thawing effect on the usually non-emotive Tam, who begins to feel true emotion whenever he is near. Tam has to make a difficult choice: to stay on the outside, forever looking in…or to turn her back on her entire world, just for the chance to finally experience what it means to fall in love.

excerpt“So. You’ve destroyed a stereotype for me. A genie who lives in a library. Different.”

“When in Rome, no?” He stirred his cup before setting down the spoon with a light clink against the saucer. “Or, I suppose it is more accurate to say when in human form. When I am Burns, I prefer here.”

“Human form.” It didn’t sound right. Who said things like that, and meant it? “Can you change into anything you want? Any shape at all?”

He stretched out his legs and cocked his head, sliding his gaze up and away. “I suppose I could. I’m getting old and set in my ways. There’s this…” He swept his hands down the line of his body.

Her eyes were unable to keep from following, not even when he lingered over his midsection. Even lounging, his shirt was tightly tucked into his beltline. No belly fat there.

He tilted his head and gave her an upper-teeth smile, nibbling gently at his lower lip. “And apparently this form is pleasing to the eye, so I wear it often. But there are others. Tiger, a favorite. Savage and regal and the colors of flames in the night. Fearsome to behold, but very useful when dealing with physical conditions in which a human form may be outmatched. Plus, I can lash my tail.”

His voice took a teasing, conspirator’s tone. “I love my tail. You’d love it too, if you saw it.”

She trained her eyes firmly upon his. No way would she give him the pleasure of checking out his tail.

banner

Title: New Regime

Series: Rune Alexander Series, Book 5

Author: Laken Cane

Genre: Paranormal, Horror

Tour Host: DRC Promotions

blurbRune and her people have been taken under the mysterious wing of the Annex, an agency that works toward Other equality. But with the new regime comes changes and some monstrous enemies the Annex seems to have brought with it. The crew finds themselves up against a group called the Shop, whose leader cares only about his lab and the monsters he creates there. But he hasn’t been able to build monsters he can use or sell…until now. Now Rune must follow a path of horror that leads from a little werefox named Megan to a town full of evil in Reverence, Kentucky, and find a way to defeat something worse than blades or guns or bombs.

Magic.

She can’t use her claws on magic.

Can she?

In book five of the Rune Alexander series, Rune must deal with not only the monsters, but the escalating tension between the berserker and Owen, flashbacks from the COS attack, and the fear that she’s losing Levi to the chasm of darkness started by Karin Love and deepened by the slayers. She and her crew will fight with everything they’ve got to defeat the evil, even if some of that darkness lives inside each one of them. Because they’re Shiv Crew, and that is what they do.

FREEBIE ALERT -November 10-14th

Shiv Crew, Rune Alexander Series, Book 1

FREE ON AMAZON

23484774Rune Alexander wants to get through her days doing her job, which is protecting the humans against the myriad of supernatural creatures, known as Others, who exist uneasily in a human’s world.

But she is unstable and damaged. She realizes how broken she is even as she continues to submit to the unspeakable things her lover does to her, craving desperately the strange peace she finds in the aftermath.

When she discovers things are not as they seem and a faceless human is torturing the supernatural groups in her city, she and her crew must break the rules and begin to protect the Others from the humans.

But as the darkness inside her becomes stronger and she ends up on the wrong side of a battle she must not lose, who will save Rune from herself?

Shiv Crew is back in book two of the Rune Alexander series.18661352

Rune and the crew–some of them a little healthier, some of them a little more battered–take on new monsters and unbelievable surprises in Blood and Bite.

While Rune is keeping her promise to Ellis and trying to get her mind fixed, the berserker goes away to take care of some business–mysterious business he doesn’t share with Shiv Crew.

What he brings back with him knocks the wind out of Rune and makes her question everything she thought she knew about Strad Matheson.

But the worst is yet to come.

With a mad vampire master she must destroy, a child she must save, and unimaginable screams from a past she has to ignore, Rune has her hands full. But there is always something new and terrible waiting in River County–waiting, it seems, just for her.

Because just when she thinks she can’t possibly handle one more terrible thing, she discovers a shocking truth about herself, her blood, and her bite.

20735416A baby necromancer calls her mother from the grave, starting a zombie infestation Rune and the crew are not prepared to handle.

But as always, they jump headlong into battle–a battle that will lead into some of the darkest moments of Rune’s life. Moments that will shatter her tenuous grip on sanity and make her long for the man whose abuse allowed her to function.

And when she falls, the berserker is there to catch her. To bring her back. To give her what she needs.

The zombies are just the beginning. Worse even than the zombies is what comes after–a nightmare witch named Damascus, a horrific decision, and death.

Always, death.

As she is given another jagged piece to the puzzle of her past, Rune knows that despite its best attempts, life doesn’t have the ability to destroy her–though she offers it all the help it might need.

With Strad Matheson and the crew behind her, Rune will stride through hell, horror, and the endless, black despair of her own mind to show the monsters why Shiv Crew is the scariest group of warriors they will ever face…

22069654

Gruesome murders begin to pop up in River County, and Rune is introduced to the bird shifters–to one bird in particular, a woman named Cree Stark.

When she gets a whiff of the shifters’ scents where COS had been executing a grisly sacrifice, Rune begins to suspect the birds know more about the slayers–and the twins–than they’re willing to admit.

Nothing is more important to Shiv Crew than finding Levi and Denim, but when Lex psychically connects with the twins, it isn’t good news she brings back.

As always, COS is at the center of it all.

The world is beginning to look at the church differently, thanks to the tireless work of Bill Rice and others like him. The humans’ acceptance is turning to fear.

And what people fear, they hate.

What the slayers are planning next will either finish them for good or give them everything they’ve ever wanted–Karin Love and unchallenged power.

Rune and the crew race against time to save River County from the biggest monster they’ve faced yet. If they fail, the church will be closer than ever to their dream of creating an Otherless world.

In Obsidian Wings, Rune hides a devastating physical weakness, makes an important choice in her love life, and gains a new understanding that will help her face the future.

No matter what happens, their world is changing. The crew is growing. And so is Rune Alexander.

bioI live in Ohio and I write urban fantasy. Laken Cane is a new pseudonym for me–I also write erotic paranormal romance for publishers like Loose Id, Ellora’s Cave, and Liquid Silver Books under a different pen name.LC

Shiv Crew is my first book as Laken, and I’ve never been as satisfied writing as I am with this series. I have a sort of end game planned for the crew, but I have no idea how many books it will take to get there. I’m having too much fun with them to think about ending them!

I do have plans to bring in a new character for one book, just so she can eventually get her own series when (or maybe before) the Rune Alexander series ends. That’s the plan.

Besides writing–when I have time to do something other than write or read–I play the heck out of my Playstation 4, my Nintendo 3DS XL, and occasionally I find time to play my Xbox 360 or Wii U. Yes. I have a sickness.

I also drink coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. But I have been trying to dilute all that coffee with some green tea. Decaf green tea. That makes up for all the caffeinated black coffee, right? Yeah. That’s what I thought.

What quirks do I have? Hmmm. The word “quirks” makes it sound so cute. I don’t swallow pills. I chew them. Yes, I chew them. Tylenol, vitamins, doesn’t matter. Even if I crush it and put it in ice cream first, I still chew. I chew ice cream. For some reason, people seem to think that’s weird. I don’t get it.

One of my favorite authors is Stephen King. That man can tell a story.

I’m obsessed with vanilla bean lotion from Bath and Body Works, journals, electric blankets, and ink pens. And electronics, coffee, and books. And pizza. And any candy that has peanut butter in it.

I’m something of a hermit, but I don’t feel that makes me weird. I don’t like the sun on my face and I can’t stand the scent of garlic. Maybe I’m part vampire. Maybe. Quirky. Just quirky.

Math and bugs are two things I don’t like. At all. I always have a calculator handy and I scream when I see bugs. I’ve been known to set off the security alarm when I spotted a spricket in my house. Shudder.

A little about my past: I grew up in the country with six siblings. We went to church. A lot. Pentecostal. There were nightly episodes of speaking in tongues, singing and dancing, and the casting out of demons. As a child, I wasn’t real sure if those demons were going to leave their hosts and set up residence inside me, so that made for plenty of nightmares!

We had no TV for much of my childhood. Books were everything to me. I was only allowed certain books, so the others–the good ones–I had to sneak and read. I did a lot of sneaking! I read everything I could get my hands on. Didn’t matter what it was, I’d read it. I was not a fan of school.

When I was very small, my main goal was to grow up and eat all the ice cream sandwiches and potato chips I could hold.

Then I grew up and decided they had too many calories. Sigh.

I was lucky enough to be a mother to two truly amazing children, a son and a daughter. My little girl was born with a variety of severe health issues, and on a bleak December day in 2009, I lost her.

I write.

Little things–

I’m a lefty. I’m a pretty terrible driver–possibly because I get lost in daydreams and stories and forget I’m driving. I’m very short. I can’t sleep without a fan.

Welcome to Bluewater Bay! This quiet little logging town on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula has been stagnating for decades, on the verge of ghost town status. Until a television crew moves in to film Wolf’s Landing, a soon-to-be cult hit based on the wildly successful shifter novels penned by local author Hunter Easton.

Wolf’s Landing’s success spawns everything from merchandise to movie talks, and Bluewater Bay explodes into a mecca for fans and tourists alike. The locals still aren’t quite sure what to make of all this—the town is rejuvenated, but at what cost? And the Hollywood-based production crew is out of their element in this small, mossy seaside locale. Needless to say, sparks fly.

This collaborative story world is brought to you by ten award-winning, best-selling LGBTQ romance authors: L.A. Witt, L.B. Gregg, Z.A. Maxfield, Aleksandr Voinov, Heidi Belleau, Rachel Haimowitz, Anne Tenino, Amy Lane, SE Jakes, and G.B. Gordon. Each contemporary novel stands alone, but all are built around the town and the people of Bluewater Bay and the Wolf’s Landing media empire.

TheresSomethingAboutAri_150pixels4pwblurbBuck Ellis’s future seems pretty damn bright. With a full college scholarship in hand, he’s going to ditch Bluewater Bay and pave the way for his kid brother Charlie to do the same. The only fly in Buck’s ointment is his ten-year addiction to his best friend since second grade, his true love, and his Achilles heel: Ari Valentine, Mr. Least Likely to Succeed.

But then Buck’s mother dies, changing everything, and five years later, his future is still on hold. It’s a struggle to keep food on the table, a roof over their heads, and Charlie on the straight and narrow. Buck can’t afford any temptation, especially in the form of the newly returned, super hot, super confident, super successful television star Ari Valentine.

ADHD poster-child Ari Valentine left for Hollywood and lost everything, including his bad reputation. Then the breakthrough role of his skyrocketing career lands him back in Bluewater Bay, to the stunned disbelief of, well, everyone. But there’s only one person Ari longs to impress—the only person who ever really mattered to him, the person he left behind: Buck Ellis.

Starstruck_150pixels4pwblurbHollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.

Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show—exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet—no matter how attractive he finds his co-star.

Carter Samuels is the critically-acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting—and made him realize he’s gay—is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.

Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family keep reminding them. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.

blurbIn rural Montana…

Wade Knowlton is a hardworking lawyer who’s torn between his small-town Montana law practice and a struggling family ranch. He’s on the brink of exhaustion from trying to save everybody and everything, when gorgeous Nicole Powell walks into his office. She’s a damsel in distress and the breath of fresh air he needs.

Even the lawyers wear boots…

Nicole Powell is a sassy Southern girl who has officially sworn off cowboys after a spate of bad seeds—until her father’s death sends her to Montana and into the arms of a man who seems too good to be true. Her instincts tell her to high tail it out of Montana, but she can’t resist a cowboy with a slow hand…

interview2

Hi Victoria. Welcome back to All I Want and More. We’re glad to have you here.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a full time writer and married for thirty-one years with two wonderful sons. I have a little black and white dog, a grey Arabian horse and live in the upstate of South Carolina. I love to read, write, ride my horse and walk my dog. I also play the Celtic harp.

Here’s my “official” bio:

Victoria Vane is an award-winning author of smart and sexy romance. Her works range from historical to contemporary settings and include everything from wild comedic romps to emotionally compelling erotic romance. Her books have received more than twenty reviewer awards and nominations to include the 2014 RONE Award for Treacherous Temptations and Library Journal Best E-Book romance of 2012 for The Devil DeVere series.

In this book, who was your favorite character to write and why?

I am absolutely in LOVE with Wade! He’s sexy, flirty, witty, and charming. The dialogue was a blast!

What 3 words would you use to describe your main characters?

IN addition to the above, Wade is also loving, loyal and responsible to a fault. Nikki is restless, rootless, and a little bit lost. She’s very much in need of a her knight errant cowboy in his gleaming pick up.

Can you tell us a little bit about this book? Maybe a little snippet?

I would love to!

Here’s my fabulous Book Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWXU89hat6s

In my story, Nikki has lost her ID on the way to Montana to bury her dead father. Wade is the probate lawyer. And here’s a sexy snippet:

EXCERPT- SLOW HAND by VICTORIA VANE

“Don’t you have to be in court soon, Counselor?” Nikki reminded him in a voice that came out breathless.

“Yeah, I do,” he replied. “Guess I got a bit sidetracked. You’re turning out to be a big distraction, you know that?”

She bit her lip. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be such an imposition.”

“I said a distraction not an imposition. There’s a big difference. I didn’t realize until now just how badly I’ve needed such a distraction.” He stepped away with a reluctant sigh.

Her pulse still hammering, Nikki exhaled the breath she hadn’t realized was trapped in her chest.

Wade spun toward his office. “Help yourself to the phone and anything else while I get cleaned up.” He paused again on the threshold. “Of course, you’re welcome to use my office if you need greater privacy.” He added over his shoulder with a look of devilment. “Or in the event any wild impulse overtakes you while I shower.”

He went to work on his shirt buttons. His collar was soon wide open revealing a generous show of muscular chest that make her hands itch to rip it off him. She diverted her gaze and curled her itchy hands by her sides.

“Have no fear, cowboy,” Nikki replied in a cool tone meant to disguise the warm flush coming over her. “I corralled all my wild impulses long ago.”

“Did you, now?” He still stood in doorway, head cocked. “Somehow, I think you may have missed a few strays.”

“Maybe I need to make myself clearer. I have an aversion to cocky cowboys.”

Just keep telling yourself that, Nikki. Maybe if you repeat it often enough it’ll become true.

“Is that so?” His brows flew upward. “I can’t say I ever met a woman with an actual aversion to me.”

“Don’t take it personally. It’s nothing against you in particular, but your type.”

“And what do you think you know about my type?”

“Since I don’t have a pole handy, enough to keep you at arm’s length. Besides that, this whole line of conversation is entirely inappropriate in light of professional ethics, don’t you think? You are my attorney, after all.”

“Well, darlin’”—he scratched his unshaven jaw—“there’s a little hitch to that.”

“What do you mean? You said you’d help me.”

“And I will, but you can’t engage my professional services until I know who you are.”

“I’ve told you who I am!” she insisted.

“Sweetheart, I’m a lawyer, and according to the law, your claim don’t weigh without authentication.”

“Authentication?”

“Proof.”

“So what are you saying? That you don’t believe me?”

“I’m not saying that at all. Only that our professional relationship will commence once you get your ID. In the interim”—his gaze slid over her in a way that threatened to melt her insides—“you’d best find yourself a nice, long, sturdy pole.”

How do you go about picking character names? Do you have to get them just right and make sure they fit with the characters personality?

In my historicals, I always try to pick historically accurate names. I also use history books. For my contempory cowboys I looked at the name of rodeo cowboys. They really do have western sounding names! I also use real people from time to time. Wade is named after the first cowboy I ever had a crush on. J

We’re cover hussies..What was your first impression of this cover?

I loved it. I did not want a cowboy with a naked chest as it would not have suited the character. I think this cover really works I also LOVE the cover for ROUGH RIDER. It does show more hot male flesh but it also works for the character (Wade’s brother Dirk).

What does writing mean to you?

On the positive side – It has given me a sense of satisfaction I have never known in any other endeavor. I am hoping for very good things with this new contemporary series.

On the negative side– Writing really has really taken over my entire life in the past couple of years, especially since I am now juggling multiple deadlines which I have never done before. Deadlines can be very stressful.

What do you hope readers take away after reading one of your books?

I hope to offer readers more than they expect – especially regarding character depth and emotion. My love scenes are very hot but they all work to serve a greater purpose in the romantic relationship.

If you had a technology free day, what would you do?

Ride my horse!

What are you currently working on?

I am currently under contract for two hot contemporary series which means I’ll have (7) releases over the next 18 months. I just finished my first draft of HELL ON HEELS, book #1 in my Las Vegas set Hotel Rode series for Kensington and am now writing book #4 in my Hot Cowboy Nights series for Sourcebooks.

excerptMary drove past the iron gate minutes before six o’clock and up the cobblestone driveway toward the Georgian-style mansion. Set back from the road, the redbrick residence was decorated with black shutters and white pillars. Flowers embellished every inch of the grounds, as did olive and Australian willow trees. Dmitri Pratt and Presley Flynn’s home was breathtakingly beautiful yet commanding in its own way, too.

She approached the circular portion of the driveway, and parked her car behind a limousine. As she turned off the engine to her Mercedes convertible, Mary tried to figure out whom the limo could belong to. Since the chauffeur was waiting patiently in the vehicle, she doubted it belonged to her dear friend Dmitri. Besides, he had always preferred to drive himself.

Curious now, she grasped the wine bottle off the passenger seat, and as she exited the car the stifling Vegas air engulfed her. Her high heels clicked against the stone driveway as she made her way to the dark hardwood front door. When she reached the entrance and knocked, the light breeze fluttered the hem of her mauve sundress.

Only seconds passed before the door opened, and Dmitri’s girlfriend, Presley, greeted her, wearing a strapless yellow baby-doll dress. Mary thought even with dark eye makeup around her gorgeous emerald-green eyes and her curled blond hair, Presley still looked much younger than Mary’s own fifty years.

“I’m so glad you could make it, Mary,” Presley said with her sweet smile. “It’s nice to see you again.”

Mary returned the smile, stepping into the house and hugging her friend tightly. Since Presley had come into Dmitri’s life, she had made it a point to invite Mary over for a weekly dinner. At first Mary had refused the kind offer because she worried it would bring back too many memories. Dmitri reminded her of her late husband, Charles, whom she missed dearly. Though after Presley’s numerous invites Mary felt rude saying no. Now she enjoyed their get-togethers, even looking forward to them. She released Presley and said, “Thank you for having me. How are things?”

“Couldn’t be better. I told you, or I think we talked about, my hours at the clinic being cut back, which is good and bad financially, of course, but it’s giving Dmitri and me more time together.” Presley’s soft, gentle voice was so welcoming.

“Wonderful news.” Mary offered the bottle of wine. “A treat for dinner tonight. A nice white that I think will complement whatever you’re serving.”

“Yum. Thank you. Let’s go into the kitchen and talk a bit before we eat.” Presley turned and headed in that direction, her curls bouncing around her shoulders.

Mary smiled, as Presley reminded her a lot of herself when she was twenty-five years old—passionate about life. She removed her high heels, leaving them at the door like she always did, and looked around the foyer. A huge balcony curved around the entire upper floor, leading to a grand wooden staircase. Dmitri’s interior designer, someone that Mary had recommended when he built the home just over four years ago, had outdone herself. From the art on the walls, to the decorative sculptures, the house exuded wealth. One of her favorite paintings was the Edgar Degas—she wasn’t sure if it was a print or an original, Dmitri could afford either. She always admired the entrance no matter how many times she’d seen it before.

Her gaze lowered to the cherry hardwood floors, and her stomach tightened. In the basement was a secret not many knew of unless they were members of the elite and exclusive BDSM dungeon Club Sin. A club that Mary had never attended—in fact, she had no idea what it looked like, only that the club existed.

Even if Dmitri owned the dungeon and would no doubt allow her membership, many of the members were his close friends and presumably closer to his age, thirty-five years old, or younger. It was one thing to visit your friends’ home for dinner; it’s quite another to have a dialogue half naked and dressed for play. Besides, most of Club Sin’s members were still single and she doubted any of them had children—the differences in their lives were vast, and therefore playing at the club lacked in appeal in more ways than one.

After Charles, her husband and the father of her children, and also her best friend and Dom, passed away, just over four short years ago, her need to play in BDSM clubs died with him.

She sighed through those still-painful memories and followed Presley when she heard voices coming from the living room. Glancing to her left, she noted Dmitri sitting on one of the leather couches. His features were stern and focused on his conversation until his eyes met hers; then he smiled.

With his blond hair and piercing blue eyes, Dmitri was a handsome young man. Though she’d known Dmitri for more than ten years, the relationship between them had always been strictly platonic. “Mary,” Dmitri said, waving her into the room. “Please come in.”

The Gladiator’s Bride by @nhysglover {#Giveaway} @GoddessFish

SBB_TheGladiatorsBride_CoverBanner

blurbCrippled by shyness, shunned for being not-right-in-the-head, gifted artist and Roman noblewoman, Marcia Mica, has only two people in the world who truly love her – her teacher, Daedalus, and her childhood friend, Asterion, both slaves in her father’s household. But when forbidden love blooms between the unlikely friends, only disaster can come of it. That disaster leaves Marcia horribly scarred and Asterion sold into the arena as a gladiator.

Years later, Daedalus brings a broken Marcia to Britannia, and Sabrina, the healer who saved his life when he was a boy, works miracles on the scarred girl. However, not all scars are physical and those Sabrina has no ability to heal.

When Sabrina and Marcia are kidnapped by a Celtic leader bent on revenge, Asterion must depend on the dreams of a Celtic Seer to find the love of his life and help foil a revolt that threatens the fragile peace in Roman Britannia. But even if he and his friends succeed, can scars that are more than just physical ever really be healed and can those whose lives are owned by others ever truly be free to follow their hearts?

excerptThat was when he saw it. That was when he knew this wasn’t a dream. Or if it was it was, it was his worst nightmare: The whole right side of her face and body were covered by red, ugly burn-scars.

He gasped and dropped to his knees, his legs unable to hold him up a moment longer.

Daedalus came to his side and rested a hand on his shoulder. ‘It’s a bit of a shock the first time you see it. But after a while you don’t notice it.’

He stared up at the man who had been like a father to him; the man he blamed for being right about Marcie and him. How could he say this was a bit of a shock?

But before he had a chance to snap out a retort, Marcie’s body began jerking as the healing commenced. Though he couldn’t see anything happening, he could sense it. And so it seemed could Daedalus.

‘It’s her… By all the gods, it’s her,’ Daedalus whispered in awe as he watched Sabrina’s face, transformed by the Urge that had taken control of her.

He didn’t know what Daedalus meant. He didn’t care what he meant. This man had had his Marcie all this time. She’d been alive, all this time, and no one had told him. They’d let him leave the Estate thinking she was dead. And he’d died that day because of it.

‘You bastard. Why didn’t you tell me?’ he sobbed out, his voice breaking on the last word.

‘Tell you?’ Daedalus looked at him as if he’d grown a second head.

‘That she lived. They told me she was dead. Her sister told me she was dead.’
