Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Toni Griffin author of Determined Mate.

Hi Toni, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

I live in Darwin, the smallest of Australia’s capital cities. I hated english with a passion at school and found my strength lay with numbers.

Now, I love escaping to the worlds I create and hope to continue to do so for many years to come. I’m a single mother of one and I work full time at a Casino. When I’m not writing or spending time with my daughter you can just about guarantee that I’ll be reading one of the many MM authors I love.

Determined Mate is the second book in my Holland Brothers series, and stars Jason Matthews and Alex Holland. I’m here to celebrate its recent release in Audio.

How do you feel about e-books vs print books?

Personally I read more e-books than I do print these days. However, I don’t think there’s anything quite like seeing your very own story in print.

What process did you go through to get your first book published?

I was actually really lucky when I submitted my first book. I submitted the story online to a publisher at about midnight, I received an email the following morning letting me know they wanted to published the book. I had no idea what to expect with editing, covers, marketing and such, but you learn as you go.

How do you find or make time to write?

With great difficulty. I would absolutely love to be able to do this full time, but as a single mum with a mortgage I would need to have a great deal of savings behind me to even think of it. At the moment I have to trying an find time between working full time, spending time with my daughter and sleep. Some days I’m successful. Others not so much.

Name one person who you feel supported you outside of your family members?

Ever since I met her, Freddy MacKay has been nothing but supportive of my writing. That woman just pushed and pushed, because she knows exactly what I’m capable of. No matter what’s going on in my life, I know I can always turn to her for support.

Tell us about a book you’re reading now.

Well last night I actually finished reading the Ongoing Reformation of Mitchell Johnson by Sean Kennedy, another Aussie author. This book is set in the same world as Tigers and Devils. I love that series, I read it way back when it was originally released and have followed the original series this whole time. I can’t wait to read the next book in this new series.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Lilah Suzanne author of Broken Records. Hi Lilah, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Talk to us about your characters in this book. What makes them unique?

What I love about Grady is that he’s been knocked down pretty hard throughout his life and yet he still comes up swinging and smiling. It’s the sort of dedicated optimism only gained through hitting bottom and refusing to stay there. I envy his audacity and his energy. Nico is cool and in control, so it was a lot of fun having him deal with being totally turned around and upside down by hurricane Grady.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in getting your book from start to publish?

The steep drop-off at the end. So much work goes into writing, and then editing, then promoting after that. And then all of sudden it’s just—Over! After the first book I felt kind of bereft, but now I’ll jump right into the next one, which is why I’m so stoked this book is part of a series.

Have you ever gone to a convention? If so, how was it? If not, do you think it’s something you’d like to do in the future?

Yes, I went to my first convention last year, the Romantic Times Con in Dallas. It was fun and very educational, but overwhelming! I’m going this year as well, and I feel much better equipped for it this time around.

Would you like to be a full-time writer?

I would, yes. I’d like to have a body of work and continue freelancing. I have plans and dreams for the future that are starting to maybe look possible.

Design the ultimate pizza.

Oh man, I’m boring. I don’t like too much going on with my pizza. I like artichoke and tomato on a regular old cheese, if I have to pick toppings. Otherwise, just plain (vegan, by circumstance not choice) cheese.

Grady presses his lips flat, looks up at the ceiling again to gather himself, sniffs and nods, then tugs Nico’s foot closer by his ankle. “Do you think… If we’d met at a bar. Or through a friend of a friend. Or the gym.” Grady’s thumb strokes the tender skin of Nico’s calf beneath the hem of his pants. “If we had just been two regular guys? We really could have been something.”

There’s a question in his voice, a hesitancy that maybe Nico would have rejected him eventually anyway. Nico scoots across the cramped bunk, crowds against Grady, shoulder to shoulder. “Well, we never would have met at the gym because I would have taken one look at you and gone home to mourn the body I’ll never have by consuming gallons of ice cream.”

Grady bumps his shoulder. “Shut up, you’re gorgeous.” He tips his head against the wall and grins. “If I’d first seen you at a bar I probably would have humiliated myself by trying to win you over with bad karaoke and shameless flirting.”

Nico’s eyebrows raise. “You mean to tell me you’ve been holding back on me? You have a level of flirting that’s even more shameless?”

“Oh yeah. You ain’t seen nothin’, sweetheart.”

“That is truly terrifying.”

Grady laughs, bright and uninhibited. Nico is so relieved to hear it, a moment of light in the darkness. Grady’s hand rests on Nico’s knee, Nico watches his own hand brush his fingers there, but he doesn’t linger.

“We aren’t, though. Just two random guys.”

Grady’s fingers flex, curving over his kneecap. “No.”

Nico exhales harshly. “I have never wanted to be a groupie so badly.”

Grady shoves at his leg. “Come on, you didn’t really think that I would do that to you—”

“In my weaker, more insecure moments?” Nico scrunches his face, embarrassed. “Yeah, I did.”

“You think that little of me, huh?” He says it with a teasing grin, but Nico’s heart sinks.

“No, Grady. I think you’re…” A million adjectives flash through his head: beautiful, amazing, stunning, compassionate, kind, generous. A supernova. He settles on, “Really special.”

Grady gives a skeptical lift of his eyebrows. “Uh oh. I’m really special, huh?”

“I’m so, so into you and it’s…” He cringes at the words but it’s true, “It’s not you, it’s me.”

“Oh lord.” Grady laments with a laugh. “Not that, please.”

“I’m the guy on the sidelines. I’m the one who makes everyone else shine. I don’t belong there, in the spotlight. I like that at the end of the day I can go home and just walk away from the cameras and the red carpets and the scrutiny. And you—you’re a star. And you can have anyone.”

Grady turns, the cramped space of the bunk making his limbs bump and nudge and curl around Nico’s body. During Grady’s shows, in the moment just before he starts singing the opening line of “Broken Records,” there’s this pause, this moment suspended in the air when the audience is silent and waiting and doesn’t even dare to inhale because in that moment, Grady’s soul is laid bare. He looks at Nico just like that and Nico can’t breathe around it.

“I don’t want anyone,” he says, voice low and serious. “I want you. How do you not get that?”

Hi Lane. Welcome to All I Want and More. We’re glad to have you here.

Thank you so much for inviting me!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a hopeless romantic and a bibliophile. I love any and all love stories. It is truly a huge honor to be writing MM romance novels. I have a gay son and was inspired by the lack of authors in the genre when I first started to give my passion a try. I love the message of hope in a well-written romance.

In this book, who was your favorite character to write and why?

Brandon was a joy and a pleasure to write. He spoke so easily to me. He’s fun, gregarious and extraordinarily strong. He knows who he is and takes no BS. If anything, I wish I were more like him!

What 3 words would you use to describe your main characters?

Brandon- confident, fighter, fabulous

Jake- kind, smart, compassionate

Can you tell us a little bit about this book? Maybe a little snippet?

The Wrong Man is a story about confronting your fears and accepting that preconceived notions might be the very thing that holds us back from finding true happiness.

Tiny snippet from The Wrong Man coming right up:

He was on fire. There was a reckless, wild-eyed look about him as though his control worn thin. He bent to lick my lips again and again in a teasing manner until I went wild. I yanked him by the hair sucking on his tongue and raking my fingers down his back as I fought to get closer still. There was no way to get the friction we craved in the confines of the truck. Jake traced the shell of my ear with the tip of his tongue.

“Invite me inside, Bran,” he growled. His eyes were full of heat and desire. I couldn’t remember a man ever looking at me quite so passionately before. It was intoxicating.

How do you go about picking character names? Do you have to get them just right and make sure they fit with the characters personality?

I like strong, masculine names. Honestly, there’s no science to it. The name has to fit the character, but I don’t belabor the point. Maybe it will become more of an issue for me as my backlog grows. Lol!

We’re cover hussies..What was your first impression of this cover?

OMG! I LOVE this cover!! Aaron Anderson is a genius. The colors and proportion with the perfect amount of sex appeal. He truly outdid himself this time!

What does writing mean to you?

Writing means freedom. Freedom to create and express yourself through fictional characters with real life problems and personality quirks. Writing is also the best form of therapy! It helps me process conflict and make sense of things I can’t always control in real life. The written word is a powerful tool. I’m grateful to spend time doing something I love.

What do you hope readers take away after reading one of your books?

My favorite stories leave me with a huge smile on my face and the voracious craving to read more of that author. I love beautifully written, somewhat flawed characters who I find relatable on some level. I want to root for them and cheer them on when they finally realize they have found someone extraordinary to spend their lives with. I hope my readers feel that way about my books. And I’ll add if I really love a book, I will literally order an authors entire backlog in one sitting. Lol! Again, I hope to inspire the same!

If you had a technology free day, what would you do?

Too easy! Read. All day. Preferably at the beach.

What are you currently working on?

My current WIP is book #4 in the Better Than Stories. By the time you read this, it will be with Dreamspinner Press! *fingers crossed*

excerptAgain, I questioned my sanity. Something was odd in my world for sure. My heart was beating double time when he finally turned onto my street. A quick escape was my best bet. I had my fingers wrapped around the car door handle and was ready to rip my

other hand from his grasp when he slowed down. He must have sensed my intent to bolt, because he held on to me until I was forced to give him a “what the fuck?” look.

“Let me walk you to your door.”

“Jake, let’s not do this. Please. I really don’t want this evening to get any weirder than it already has been. Thank you for tonight. For dinner and pretending to—”

“Hey, nothing is weird here. It’s dark, and I’m walking you to your door—”

“I’m a big boy. I’ve got this.” I detached my hand from his grip and opened the door.

“Thanks again.”

When I reached the sidewalk, he was waiting for me. The man obviously was hard of hearing.

“You are stubborn.” I gave him my best evil eye before I trudged up the path ahead of him.

“Me? You’re the difficult one. I’m trying to be nice—”

“You don’t have to prove you’re nice to me. I get it. That doesn’t mean—suit yourself.”

“Humor me.”

I fished my key from my pocket as I approached the well-lit front porch.

“Here I am, safe and sound. No need for worry,” I said flippantly as I turned to Jake.

“You ca—”

I swallowed my words. He was closer than I expected. Much closer. I felt the warmth from his body but wasn’t prepared for the hunger I saw in his eyes. I licked my bottom lip nervously. I knew what was going to happen, and though I wasn’t sure it was a good idea, I wasn’t going to stop him. He bent slightly and brushed his nose against mine. I felt his breath on my lips as I waited for him to close the distance between us. Neither of us moved. He smelled delicious, that intoxicating combination of soap and a hint of musky cologne I’d noticed the morning he hugged me in my kitchen. I could have happily buried my nose in his shirt or in the curve where his neck met his shoulders. I closed my eyes and leaned in the tiniest bit closer, expecting him to take over. He still didn’t move.

“Aren’t you going to ki—”

And then he pounced. He crashed his mouth over mine and snaked his arms around my waist, fusing our bodies together. His hands traveled up and down my back while he licked a sensual line across the seam of my lips, requesting entry. I heard myself moan as his tongue danced and collided with mine in a lustful assault. I arched into him instinctively. Jake lowered his hands to my ass, drawing me in tightly as he thrust his hips forward. The friction was hot, and his demanding kisses had my head reeling. This was nothing like our frantic make-out sessions years ago.

Just as that errant thought surfaced to remind me whom I was grinding against like a teenager on my front porch, Jake turned his full attention to my mouth. I was painfully hard, but he was right. We shouldn’t be doing any of this. But I couldn’t seem to stop myself. I bit at his jaw and then licked my way to his ear, flicking the lobe gently with my tongue until I felt his teeth at my neck. I made a strangled sound and went limp in his arms. He was overpowering in a subtle, almost unexpected way. I was two seconds away from ripping his shirt when a car went down my street blaring hip-hop music at an obscene volume. I pulled away and rested my forehead against his shoulder. We stood quietly catching our breath for a moment.

Then Jake pressed a soft kiss on my cheek and stepped away. “Good night, Bran. Thank you for… well, just thank you. I’ll see you soon.”

I stared after him like an idiot, watching him open his door and start the SUV. I heard the familiar hum of distant traffic and smelled the fragrant sweet star jasmine from my neighbor’s garden. Everything looked and seemed to be in place, but something was different.

Book Blast and #Giveaway: A Very Holland Valentine by Toni Griffin ~ @MischiefCorner @PridePromo

Book Name: A Very Holland Valentine

Series Title: Holland Brother#6

Author: Toni Griffin

Release Date: February 14, 2015

Categories: Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Paranormal

Words: 24,000 words

Cover Artist: Freddy MacKay

AVHV-TG4x6blurbValentine’s Day is fast approaching and with it the completion of the renovations to their home. None could be happier about this then Zack who can’t wait to get away from Maryanne and all her fussing.

Plans are being finalised for all four couples for the happy day. However, sleezy tradies, an over protective mother-in-law and unexpected complications throw spanners in the works.

excerptZack sighed. He loved his mother-in-law, really he did. However, living with her for the last few months was starting to wear a little thin.

Since their house was currently undergoing major reconstruction, Zack, along with his mate and their daughter, and Brian, Marcus and their boys had all moved in with Maryanne and Joe.

Zack couldn’t believe how lucky that had turned out to be. There was no way he would have been able to stay home and hide himself away from all the construction workers while pregnant. He shuddered to think of what would happen if one of them should see him.

“Are you sure I can’t get you anything?” Maryanne asked him for what seemed like the thousandth time that morning.

Zack reached down and placed a hand on his swollen belly. “I’m sure. We’re just fine,” he replied.

Simon and Zack had been completely surprised by this little bundle of joy. They’d been trying for nearly six months when Hayley had sat them down and asked for a brother or sister.

After the first couple of new moons with Zack not falling pregnant, he had started to get a little worried that there might be something wrong. He and Simon had decided to keep their attempts to themselves so they could surprise the family when and if he fell pregnant, and if it didn’t happen, then he wouldn’t have to share their disappointment with everyone.

The realisation that Zack was indeed expecting came as a complete shock. Zack hadn’t been like Jason, Brian and Rick. He hadn’t had an ounce of morning sickness. He’d woken up one morning, in the room he and Simon were sharing at Maryanne and Joe’s. It was the last week of school for the year, less than two weeks till Christmas, and Zack was looking forward to the holidays. He’d started to get dressed, only to find out his favourite pair of jeans were extremely tight. Zack turned to Simon, who was also getting dressed for his day at the office.

“Do I look fat to you?” he asked.

Simon stared at him, wide-eyed. “Is that supposed to be some sort of trick question?” Simon asked him, looking Zack over warily.

Zack giggled at how careful his mate was being. “No, you smarty, my pants aren’t fitting. Do I look like I’ve put on some weight?”

Zack lifted his shirt so Simon could take in his body and twisted this way and that. Simon sucked in a breath, walked up to him and dropped to his knees. Holding Zack still, Simon leaned forward and placed a kiss against his belly. “Yes, love. It looks like you’ve put on some weight.”

Zack stared at his mate for a second before his actions clicked. “You mean…” He stared down, his hands holding his shirt rucked up under his chin, at the small protuberance he could see in his belly. “But… how? I haven’t…”

Simon kissed his stomach again and whispered, “Love you, thank you for making me the happiest man on earth. Love you too, little one. Can’t wait to meet you.”

Zack wiped at the tears gathering in his eyes, then placed one hand on the small bump and threaded the other through his mate’s silky locks.

That had been seven weeks ago, his principal, Donald Murphy, hadn’t been happy about the late notice of their supposed surrogate giving birth and Zack needing time off. Hopefully he’d given enough notice in December for his boss to find a substitute; he didn’t think it would be a problem with the six-week school holiday period. Classes were just starting back up now in the last week of January, and Zack missed his students.

Thinking about his students also made him think about something else he missed. Home. Thankfully the construction work should be finished soon, and they would all be able to go home. He loved Maryanne and Joe to bits. But the woman fussed like there was no tomorrow. He knew she did it out of love, but sometimes Zack hid in his room just to get a moment of peace and quiet.

Of course he couldn’t tell his mate that his mother was smothering him. All the Holland boys thought sun shone out of their parent’s butts, and most of the time, Zack agreed.

However, even though this was the fourth pregnancy in the family, none of the other three had had to live with Maryanne. Yes, she had visited, but she always had to leave as well. There was no leaving for either Zack or Maryanne at this time. He really couldn’t wait to get home.

“You hungry, Zack? I can make you something to eat if you’d like,” Maryanne asked as she walked back into the living room not even five minutes after she’d asked him the last time.

“I’m fine, thanks.” Just then, his stomach grumbled. Okay, maybe he was a little hungry. “A sandwich might be nice if it’s not too much trouble,” he conceded.

“No trouble at all. I’ll be back in a minute.”

It had been all right at the start of the school holidays, but as soon as he started to show more than he could reasonably cover up, Zack was confined behind closed doors.

Hayley was also missing during the day now. She had gone from a half day at kindy last year to a full school day at prep. Zack hated that he wasn’t there for his girl on her first full day at school. Simon was dropping her off in the mornings on his way to work and Maryanne picked her up in the early afternoons when school finished and brought her back. Another hour or so and Zack could see his little girl again. He missed having her around during the day. He’d gotten so used to having her right there during the school holidays.

She was growing up so damn fast. Some days he felt like he blinked and she’d changed on him. Zack knew it was all a part of growing up, but that didn’t mean he had to like it.

“Here you go, honey. You let me know if there’s anything else you need. Are you cool enough? It’s supposed to be a scorcher out there today. I can get you a fan if you like.” Maryanne handed Zack his sandwich and then immediately turned and to start looking around, for the fan, Zack assumed.

He sighed quietly. “I’m fine for the moment. Thanks for the food.” He smiled at her before taking a bite. Maryanne studied him for a second before she reluctantly nodded.

“Do you want me to turn the television on? Are you comfortable? How’re your feet today? Any swelling?”

Zack really was hard-pressed not to roll his eyes. Seriously, the woman needed to calm the hell down.

He finished chewing and swallowed his mouthful. “I’m fine, thank you. I happy here with my book.” Zack held up the iPad he was reading a book on and then placed it back on the arm of the couch. “My feet feel fine as well. Nothing Simon can’t take care of tonight when he gets back from work.”

Zack grinned mischievously and winked at Maryanne.

She chuckled, then fussed a little with her clothes. “If you’re sure.”

“I’m fine, Maryanne, truly. If I need anything, you’ll be the first person I call.”

“Good.” She smiled at him, nodded, and then thankfully left him alone.

Zack sighed in relief, turned his iPad back on and ate his sandwich. A hard kick to his stomach had him rubbing at the offending area. “I know, little one. Not long now and you too get to deal with the awesomeness that is your grandma.”

During an emergency, Trent’s over-protective instincts kick in when he believes Shawn is in harm’s way. He ends up embarrassing and angering Shawn in front of their fellow officers, which seems as though it will end any hope of Trent having a chance with the young man he can’t push from his mind. Shawn can’t decide whether he wants to punch or kiss Trent. Kissing wins. Once they spend some time together away from the stresses of their jobs, they find that they’re not just compatible—they’re combustible.

But Trent can’t seem to accept that there are hazards that come with working in law enforcement. Right as they’re discovering how much they mean to one another, the danger escalates on the Strip. The underground vigilante group, The Citizens Against Immorality, have raised the stakes. Will Shawn and Trent be their next targets?

Owen scurried back to the dining area and Shawn contacted Vicki. Once he’d confirmed that the other woman was still at the bar, they determined they would each collar their suspect and meet up in the back, behind the restaurant. Shawn alerted dispatch so that they could send a cruiser over as soon as possible if they needed a transport.

Right as he clicked off, he raised his head. He sucked in a breath at the sight of Trent ambling down the hall toward him.

Be cool.

Trent stopped in front of him, so very close. So tempting.

“What happened to your lip?”

Shawn was about to answer, but snapped his jaw shut instead.

The fuck?

Chuckling, he managed to answer. “Uh, tussle on the Strip.” He furrowed his brow, perplexed. “So you came back here just to ask me that?”

“You should be more careful.”

“Sure, I’ll keep that in mind. I am a cop. Shit happens.”

Trent scowled at him, crossing his arms in a defiant gesture as he did.

Shawn had to admit he was completely lost. Trent was hot and sexy, but that didn’t mean he might not be one card shy of a full house. Shawn’s radio crackled, offering him a respite from having to come up with something to say immediately.

“Are you out back?”

“We have a situation. There’s smoke pouring from the kitchen area. I’ve called it in, but we’ve gotta get these people outta here now.”

bio M/M and M/M/F Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys a good saucy tale – after all, who doesn’t? Since she loves several genres, you may find your heroes in a contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi setting. One of her passions is bringing people’s fantasies to life on the page, because life is too short for even one boring moment. Her stories are volcanic in heat, deep in emotion, and sprinkled with doses of humor.

When not indulging in her obsession for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. The Pacific Northwest is the ideal spot to enjoy both hiking and beachcombing. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She now resides on the northern coast of Oregon, where the constant rain and fog remind her of visits to family in England and Scotland when she was a child.

She is currently working on the Sin City Uniforms Series and a BDSM spin-off to the Gin & Jazz series entitled The Hampton Road Club. A follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey’s story in Rockin’ the Alternative will be available in 2015.
