Review: Engaging the Bachelor (Pulse #1) by Cathryn Fox

EngagingtheBachelor_500Pretending to date this doctor is a prescription for trouble…

Hot, Southampton doctor, Carson Reynolds isn’t the kind of man Gemma Carr should be playing with. But his offer of a fake engagement comes with sexy, late night house calls, and despite her bad girl reputation, it’s been far too long since she’s taken two and called anyone in the morning.

When Carson sees Gemma at a charity event, he knows he has to have her. It’s been ten years since he’s had her in his arms, but that hasn’t lessened his intense need for her. To save her reputation and get his parents off his back, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

It’s the perfect set-up–until this fake engagement starts to feel a little too real…

review

I have to say that I love Ms. Fox’s letter to her readers at the very beginning of the book. She keeps it real and let’s you know what you are getting from her upfront. She is promising you a story with a past, present and future, characters with integrity, respect, devotion to family and friends and lust that could possibly turn into love… But will Carson and Gemma allow that to happen… Or will the evil forces of one manipulating, not so nice woman be allowed to get in the way of this story…

I want you to believe that this woman, Gemma, is from the wrong side of the tracks who meets a hot, sexy doctor, Carson, and all goes wonderful for them… but this story is so much more than that. It really is not about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks because that shit does not exist anymore… or it shouldn’t. But Gemma is the exact opposite of that – you just have to stay around long enough to see her walls come down… now the doctor is hot and sexy as all get out and he is hell bent on making Gemma’s wall come (ha) down… But walls are meant to be torn down…

Carson is a guy that has carried the weight of feeling the disappointment from his family around on his shoulders for what feels like forever. He tries to do the right thing, he tries to make the right decision and he tries to please everyone – everyone but himself. He knows his family’s status means more to his family than his happiness, which is why the deal Carson offered to Gemma makes sense to him to please everyone – pun intended.

Gemma has seen to many people come and go in her life that she has decided that any kind of attachment is not a good kind. She has worked hard on obtaining a bad girl reputation, funny thing is… that is farthest from the truth as Pluto is from the Sun. Her bedroom playmates, she can count on just a few fingers, so it’s funny that she would accept what other people think of her… But if she allows them to believe this lie, then she can keep the guys at bay – away from herself and her heart. However, she craves what every woman wants – someone to love her, be there for her, and stay. But she learned a long time ago that that kinda of stuff does not happen, especially to people like her.

These two create a story worth reading. They will take you on a journey that will leave you feeling like you watched them grow up and overcome a few of the obstacles that they have faced all their lives. The give and take between these two is perfect. This is a very intriguing story, with twist and turns that you think you know are coming but do they happen – you will have to read this story to find out if they do…

Ms. Fox created a story that I truly enjoyed. It has been a while since I have read a story that has pulled emotions from me to make me feel what the characters were feeling. She made me feel the hurt and frustration of Gemma and poor Carson, you will feel the desperation and determination he is going through.  This story is a great read that you can be done on a lazy Saturday afternoon
