The Inspiration Behind Her Perfect Lips by Lisa Fox
Hello everyone, and thanks so much for hosting me today!
The first time I ever saw Bourbon Street, I was just twenty-one years old. I had arrived in New Orleans the day before, fresh off a one-way trip from New York City. I’d lived in and around Manhattan all my life, and I thought there was nothing I hadn’t seen, done, or heard about.
I was very wrong.
Not even Times Square at its raunchiest prepared me for what I saw on Bourbon Street. Mostly naked women leaned out of doorways, beckoning people to come in and join them in the dark, smoky recesses beyond the flashing neon lights. Muscled bouncers and lanky barkers stood outside the twenty-four hour clubs, enticing people with offers of three-for-one happy hour deals while “Play That Funky Music” blasted in the background. Everyone had some sort of drink in their hands as they strolled up and down the street, ‘Big Ass’ beers and bright red hurricanes, the signature plastic hand grenades containing the drink of the same name, Styrofoam cups of every size, shape, and color. There were beads everywhere, on the sidewalk, the lampposts, hanging from the power cords, dripping from the balconies, decorating flesh. Women flashed their breasts to cheers and applause while little boys with bottle caps stuck on the bottom of their shoes tap-danced with all their might, crying for tips, and hustlers approached the hopelessly drink and unsuspecting, scamming them with the simple challenge, “I bet I can tell you where you got them shoes at.”
And that was just the first block.
I lived in New Orleans for five years, and Bourbon Street was always a haven of decadence and debauchery. They had to clean the street every single morning with industrial strength antiseptics because every bodily fluid imaginable was spilled on that concreate during the night. It was hedonistic, depraved, and absolutely wonderful.
Eventually I moved away, moved on with my life. Twelve years passed. I went back just this last year for a conference and was pleased to discover that it was all still the same—right down to the brand of cleaner they used to scrub the street. I had changed so much since the last time I had been there, but if closed my eyes, I could be twenty-one again, drunk on life and cheap vodka, ready to take on whatever the night had to offer for that one, long weekend. And that thought was the spark of inspiration behind Her Perfect Lips.

You have to take a risk to live an adventure.
Determined, capable, and primed to rock her first big marketing conference, Stacy Saunders is not about let to anything get in the way of her ambition. It’s been a long time since she’s been in New Orleans, but she has no use for beads or Bourbon Street. She built a strict itinerary for this trip – one that certainly didn’t include running into the gorgeous Tennyson Landry again.
A chance reunion between the former lovers brings old feelings to the surface and the possibility of rekindling old flames. Their second time around could be the best time of all – if they can bridge the gap even wider than the thousand miles between them…
