Bannon’s Gym, Book 1
Danny Bannon and Eddie Roscoe have been fighting, in and out of the ring, for more than fifteen years. Mutual attraction and small-town ties hold them together, yet they’re haunted by a shared tragedy that still hangs between them.
Their tenuous, on-again off-again relationship takes a hard right cross with the arrival of Tom Delaney, a teen on the run from his punch-happy father. In no time, the kid shows himself to be a boxing prodigy.
But Tom’s politically influential father isn’t yet down for the count. When his mother shows up at Eddie’s diner with a shiner and a haunted look in her eyes, Tom is hopeful for her future. But when that hope is snuffed out, Tom’s rage has him ready to turn his new fighting skills to a deadly purpose. Revenge, or die trying.
Unless his surrogate big brothers can put their painful past behind them to keep history from rising up for another round.
First, let me say that this book is a M/M, if this is not your cup of tea, you will not hurt my feelings. But you can at least give it a chance by reading my review. Never judge a book by a cover, lol.
Secondly, let me say this is short book (I read it in one night, lol) and my review will be kinda short because I do not want to give away too much. Also, the blurb is really good at letting you see what the book is about. So, this review will not be like my normal review…
And lastly, if you give this a chance, make sure you check out Ms. Cat’s website out because there is more to come of this series and she also has some other awesome series (even a little m/m/f for those that are intrigued with that (;)
Now review time…. I have read some of Ms. Cat’s other books and I have to say this woman has a way with her words. She makes her character show real, raw emotion, she makes them strip their souls bare before you and shows you what they wish to keep hidden. She is kinda evil like that but you know her characters have the need to show you their battle scars in order for you to see where they have been and hopefully where they want to go. But in order to get there, they need to stand bare and have every ugly truth seen… So, her setting for this series is where you would think emotions are not allowed to show up… and love, well… that is another story… But let me welcome you to the world of MMA.
This is a story about Eddie and Danny but it is also has two other characters that have to be in the story… Tom and Gloria. Remember my warning about not giving away to much. Eddie and Danny have been friends forever but they share a history that has basically torn them apart. But when Eddie finds a scrawny kid, Tom, in the alley behind his diner beating the crap out of a drunk old man who is trying to steal his backpack… the past seems to be repeating itself and now it is hinging on destroying just what little bit of friendship they have left. You will feel for these two stubborn headed men, even though you will want to kick them both in their arse. They are old enough to know that the past should stay in the past but they are too bullheaded to leave the past behind. But when they realize their past stands in the way of helping out Tom, they agree to try to put it behind them…. will the past and all the ghost and demons stay there or will they threaten to find the weak spot in their relationship?
What I love about this story is that Eddie and Danny kinda come together to help Tom. It was truly nice to see these three form a relationship like they did. And remember, this is book one… But when you learn about these three, you learn that their lives have handed them all a very crappy hand at one point in time, but with Gloria in their corner, they all find something they did not know they needed – love and support and each other.
I was impressed with this story because it touches you on a level you are not aware of. The emotion in story is truly rooted deep within the characters and the rawness of despair and lost is as evident as the scars from the cage they have all fought in. You will find yourself pulling for them to win the battles they are fighting within themselves and outside. These characters truly show a side of themselves I am sure they do not want you to see, but they show it to you and hope you understand their story.
Great job Ms. Cat with this story… The rest in the series have got to be just as good if not better than this one… Wait, this is the first one – so the best is yet to come!! 🙂
