Jade is in Nashville on her third week of a month-long business trip. She doesn’t mind seeing a new city every week, but she’s dragging after so many without a break. When a sexy stranger wants to share her breakfast table, she welcomes the change in scenery. The easy banter and teasing that dances behind the eyes of the handsome voice actor have her wondering if just this once, a one-night stand might be worth her time.
Brandon is tired of the playboy image that comes with his cult-celebrity status. When he meets a business woman with a travel schedule as hectic as his, she lights a spark deep inside. The problem is, he’s hoping for something long-term, and she’s hesitant to start anything that will become long-distance. With less than three days before they go their separate ways, Brandon has to show Jade there’s more to them than just an unconventional fling.
Mini Blurb: Jade needs to break up a monotonous, five-week business trip. A one-night stand with Brandon, the sexy voice actor she meets at breakfast, is the perfect solution. With three days before they go their separate ways, Brandon’s hoping to show Jade there’s more to them than an unconventional fling.
Tell us a little about your book?
A: There are two things I’m fascinated with (okay, there are a lot more than that, but two specifically that apply here)—the idea of having a job that lets me travel, because who doesn’t want to see the world on someone else’s dime? And hotel sex; there’s just something different about getting it on in a hotel room. It’s still a bed, but it’s not *your* bed.
Unconventional Fling brings those both together, because sometimes, if the circumstances are right, and fate is in a generous mood, a one-night stand can become so much more.
How much emotion does it take from you to write?
A: If I’m really into a scene, I emotionally lose myself in it completely. I’ll snarl when the characters do, I’ll smile, I’ll cry, I’ll moan. I submit completely to my characters when it comes to emotion.
What is your favorite part of the book?
A: There’s a scene where Brandon and Jade hook up again for the first time after going their separate ways. There’s a little hesitation, a bit of fumbling, and then some slipping and sliding in the shower (and in case you’d like a tease):
She plucked her body wash from the corner. His hand wrapped around her wrist, and his eyes narrowed, but his smile never wavered. “Apricot energizer?”
She twisted away from his light grip with a laugh. “Are you worried about smelling like a girl?”
He ducked his head, lips hovering close enough to her neck that she could feel his breath, but he never made contact. His nose glided lightly up her skin. “I’m concerned that if I smell like you, you’re going to be even more impossible to get out of my head.”
You can only pick 3 words for your main characters..what would they be?
A: Intelligent, sexy, and lonely
Which was the easiest character to write and the hardest ~ and why?
A: My heroines are almost always harder to write for me than my heroes, and this story was no different. Brandon popped into my head complete with flaws, motivation, and passion. For Jade, I had to make sure I wasn’t mirroring myself on the page. And she was a little tight-lipped about what she wanted out of life beyond a paycheck. But I eventually got her to open up.
How many books are you shooting for in this series?
A: Right now I have at least one more planned, and ideally it will be a three book series. If you’ve read Unconventional Fling, I can tell you I plan on bringing Trent back for Unconventional Spark and pairing him with a heroine who makes him question everything he knows about anything.
What are you currently working on?
A: You probably don’t want the entire list, lol. I’m planning a new series, chock full of more cubicle dwellers, a kick-ass hacker for a heroine in book 1, and a hero who’s about to learn karaoke can be a gateway to some of the sexiest trouble of his life.
How do you deal with unruly characters? When they won’t cooperate and don’t do what you expected?
A: Lol, this happens to me so often. I always plot a story before I write it, and more often than not, about 1/4-1/2 the way through, I have to rearrange to accommodate willful characters. But I don’t fight it, unless what they want to do is “go take a nap.” I tend to think they know what’s best.
What’s one thing that you enjoy about writing?
A: Losing myself in someone else’s story. Being able to dive into a new tale, and world, and mindset, and live a life that isn’t mine through someone else’s eyes. There’s something almost magical about that.
Since we’re cover hussies….what was your first impression of your cover?
A: I swooned when I saw my cover. I was just checking my email while I waited for my coffee, and the image came up, and… I think a lot of authors dream of that moment where they see that perfect book cover, and they know they’ve made the right choice, and that was Unconventional Fling for me. Her eyes, the colors, the layout. It’s a gorgeous example of how effective simplicity can be.
What do you prefer ebooks or paperbacks?
A: I get the feeling that this is an unpopular opinion, but ebooks. It’s true, there’s something about owning a paperback copy of something, but an ebook doesn’t take up any more shelf space, I can care hundreds of them in my purse, and I can read them on my phone. And since I’m always reading when I’m not writing… talk about convenient.
Is there a genre you would like to write but are a little apprehensive to try?
A: There’s a story I’d like to write someday that I guess I’d describe as dystopian or futuristic fantasy. But the rules are different for building those worlds on paper than a contemporary romance world, and I’m not sure I could do the conspiracy and tension that is my plot justice.
Okay…. personal time!!!! Oh yeah, I go there… Hahah…
A: Eep! But okay, I’ll play 😉
If you thought you were safe… Nah… Forgot it… Not a chance! We will start off slow and easy, I promise!
What is on your night stand?
A coffee cup, a notebook with story notes in it, and my phone. Because I’m addicted to checking my email at three am. An old job left me with some bad habits.
What are you listening to you right now?
Halestorm. Right at this very moment, a cover of Gold Dust Woman—possibly one of my favorite songs ever. I think Lizzie Hale deserves recognition for resurrecting amazing, female metal like we haven’t seen for a couple of decades.
What are you reading right now?
This interview 😉 Okay, seriously, though. I’m re-reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman, because it’s one of my favorite books ever. Nobody slides between reality and the fantastic like Mr. Gaiman, and I adore his vision of the gods, both old and new.
What is your favorite season? Holiday?
Spring is my favorite season. Things are new and green and just starting to come to life, and it’s cool, frequently rainy, and just gorgeous. But my favorite holiday is Christmas. I love finding the perfect gifts for people, and seeing them smile when they open the presents and they know someone gets them.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Hehehe, as far as the world knows, I’m a gamer girl. That’s the façade I like to keep up. Honestly, though, I do a lot of reading, and baking. I love to find new recipes to try out, sweet, savory, deserts, main courses, soups, all of it.
Dark or Milk Chocolate? Dark
Favorite color? Red
Left or right handed? Right
Junk or Health Food? Junk (unless there’s fresh fruit. Fresh fruit always wins, lol).
Night owl or early bird? Early bird.
Leather or Lace? Leather
Soft or Hard… Bed, where was your mind? Hard (and my mind was in bed, where it should be, right? 😉
Cowboy or businessman? Businessman. Suit porn for the win.

Hairy chests or smooth? Smooth
Sexiest feature on a man? Eyes. Gorgeous, deep, soul-piercing eyes.
Vampire or Werewolf? Vampire (see: smooth chests above)
Twitter and/or Facebook? Twitter.

Is there anything else you like to add?
Y’all conduct a brutal interview, it was a blast. Thanks for having me today! And I’d love to hear from your readers. So tell me, dear visitors, cowboys or businessmen?
** Elaine here..to answer your question Allyson, I’d pick Cowboy 🙂
Jade shifted to face him but didn’t break the contact. A soft smile danced on full lips. “Does that happen a lot? They don’t show?”
He bit back his surprise. If she’d been anyone else—one of the attendees for instance—he might think the question was founded in the rumors. But there was no way she’d heard those. She hadn’t even known who he was. Which was kind of nice. “I don’t know. I haven’t made a habit of extending the invite.”
Her brows rose, hazel eyes studying him. She shook her head and took a sip of her drink. “Thank you again for this afternoon. I don’t think I’ve ever been rescued by a knight in shining armor before.”
Pride rushed through him but wilted when something occurred to him. “Is that why you’re here?”
She laughed—that was a beautiful, playful sound—and shook her head. “I mean, it certainly didn’t hurt. But I’m here to see you, not because I felt obligated.”
“Good. Perfect.” He fumbled for more words. It was difficult to concentrate with all the blood rushing from his head and into his lower extremities. He was having a hard time thinking about anything but her gorgeous mouth, kissing those full lips, and if that was what her laughter sounded like, how incredible it would be to make her moan.
